Governors Harbor/Cupids Cay, Tarpum Bay & Back to Rock Sound

Time Flies!  Rob’s foot is pretty much healed as I write this.  We spent a quiet New Years and set out for Governors Harbour on New Years Day.  One of the problems with staying in one spot is the batteries tend to get low and that was our problem.  We thought we would motor up to Governors, about 15 miles, but as it turned out we had a lovely sail!  Dropped the hook a bit after 1pm and off I went to town.  Nothing, I mean nothing was open on New Years Day.  It was good to walk around but the only person ‘working’ was a fisherman plying his fish and lobster.

Governors Harbour was founded in 1648 but Loyalists and the architecture is a wonderful blend of Key West, Colonial and Bahamian.IMG_2308IMG_2309

Definitely Bahamian and the Government Building decked out for Christmas!

We have always like it here and have our favorite haunts like the Buccaneer Club up the hill, the Haynes Library and the local bakery.IMG_2314IMG_2316

On the second we went to shore to test out Rob’s foot!  He did very well.  We went for a few groceries – pretty bare but we were told there would be 3 supply boats the next day, went by the bakery but no conch patties till 11:30 so we went back to the boat, dropped off our purchases, picked up books to exchange at the library and back to town we went.  Up the hill to the Buccaneer Club were we had a Conch &  a Grouper Burger.  By now Rob’s foot was a bit sore so he stayed at the library while I went to have a copy made of our Cruising Permit.  Since I will be going stateside for a few weeks I may be bringing back items for the boat.  To avoid duty on these things you must show a valid Cruising Permit.  We had another Pearson 365 in the anchorage that we had met last year.  Howard & Lois invited us over for cocktails and it was nice to see what others have done to their boat!

This morning we are headed to Tarpum Bay where last year we met Donavan & Diane from the D & D.  More to come……

Well D & D is no more.  Now it is just Diane but here are a couple of pictures from last year

Diane & RobHaving fun!

Diane asked me to help her make conch fritters for the Easter Homecoming @ Rock Sound!  That will be a blast – looking forward to it.

Now in Florida.  Time for the doctors and seeing friends!
